Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer-Automation will identify, scope, and implement automation projects as well as partner with design, manufacturing engineering and cross-functional business team members to develop efficient solutions to advance manufacturing technologies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and build of automated work cells including concept development, detailed mechanical and electrical design, component selection and control software programming
  • Analyzes machining and assembly cycle times to provide continuous improvement to reduce cost, improve quality and on-time delivery
  • Develops cost effective processes and procedures for the manufacture of parts and assemblies in conformance with established specifications and customer requirements in conjunction with production personnel
  • Designate, modify and/or make recommendations for the procurement of equipment necessary to produce parts and/or assemblies
  • Project management for deployment of complex automated systems; develops manufacturing cost estimates to support quoting activities; sourcing “of the shelf” automated solutions
  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes including CAD drawings for cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures; standard work instructions
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests; deployment to the production floor and operator training on machine procedures

Knowledge and Experience

  • Highly Skilled in CAD
  • Experience with machine design and fabrication preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design
  • Thorough understanding of PLC control, including ladder logic, servo control, and robotics
  • Thorough understanding of electro-mechanical measurement systems including distance, proximity, and thermal devices
  • Thorough understanding of electro-mechanical actuators, including servo, pneumatic, and VFD
  • Problem-solving and creative thinking – will be required to troubleshoot problems as they arise and find effective solutions
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Detail-oriented, mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to communicate well to other members of the development team
  • 3+ years of experience in operations/manufacturing environment
  • Basic understanding of ISO9001 and LEAN
  • Proficient in manual machining, fabrication preferred
  • Conceptual understanding of CNC machining preferred
  • Allen Bradley proficiency and Solidworks proficiency preferred

Education and Certification

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline or related field
